Thomas Gainsborough was a lanscape and portrait artist of 18th Century England - my favourite time and my favourite place. He has this fragile technique that works really well when he's painting clothes - its adds an air of delicate, almost tragic femininity to the subject. The fashion in these paintings is just mindblowing, it really makes me wish people still dressed like that.
